Attached lens, but something went wrong

Hey everybody,

excuse me for asking such a foolish question. I attached a kit lens to my Nikon D3500 budget-camera when shooting outside and I hadn't even noticed applying to much power or pressure when mounting it. However, it ended up being attached but with the marks (the white dots) being off by quite a bit. I managed to detach it but there was some grinding noise. Now the mount seems intact, the camera still works (aperture control, ISO, shutter speed) and exposure meter works as well, however the lens is done with, I guess? Can I safely re-attach this or should I sell it in damaged condition? It's the 70-300 mm one. Frankly I have no idea how this happened and I'm still in shock, so to say.

Your input is much appreciated!

Notice the visible (grinding?) damage beneath the pins.

Sorry for the bad image quality, I couldn't manage to get a better picture of it.
