Command dial - any way to make it easer to rotate past detents?

In some situations, in manual mode, I'd like to change the shutter speed for several subsequent shots. This is done via the command dial. Ditto for changes in aperture and ISO.

Is there any way to weaken the detents of the dial? It's not a simple mechanism, where a simple follower external to the dial lumps into each one of the flutes on the dial. The way it works now is that each detent happens after 3 flutes go to the right or left.

I have a good tripod (name starts with "M" and it's made in Italy) but it's still a hassle to maintain the original frame while futzing with the command dial.
