Good to see that I am not the only one.

When reading forums like this one there seems to be lots of superior photographers out there who never find gear that match their skills! 

I am also about to retire from work and will spend more time on nature and bird photography ...

That sounds reasonable. At least you should be fortunate to have good gear!
