Can you get 1000mm out of a 200mm lens?

Being a birder is tough. No lens is long enough, really. And anything over 300mm ... the weight, ouch! Though you could practice for the Summer Olympics with that 150-450mm telephoto.

So this being an age of miracles and wonder, why not take an existing 200mm lens... and then build software image enhancement into the lens itself? To take the incoming image... and then ... infer ... how it would look scaled up to 1000mm. These days, you can carry a terabyte of data on a very small flash drive... and then it just becomes a best guess scenario of matching incoming data to existing hi-res patterns... sharpen those feathers!

There would be problems at first, like maybe it would generate a bluebird when that teeny far-off speck was actually a blue heron. Or turn a far-off McLaren into a Tesla, the horror. But software image enhancement may be the future of lens design.
