I'm a photo journalist who use Nikon equipment.

I have the following camera :

Nikon D2X

Nikon D200

Nikon D300

Nikon D7000

Nikon D90

Nikon D80

Nikon D610

I also have a D5600 that I use with the 18-200mm VR lens but this one is mostly for walking around on vacation. I believe I get better from the 18-55 and 55-200 separate.

When I'm outside I mainly go with those two camera :

The D300 with a 18-55mm "Kit Lens" for close proximity

The D80 with a 55-200mm lens for zoom and med range.

I also have the D2Xs in my bag with a 50mm f1.8 AF

Why don't I carry around my more expensive camera like the D610 or D7000 ?

Because it's my business and I want to take the less risk possible.

I found out that the D2X seem to have a fast autofocus than the D300, even if it's somewhat older. Is this possible ?

Would I get a real gain of using the D90 instead of the D80 ?

Does someone know if I'd gain much using the 18-70mm lens (without VR) ?

I currently don't use my D200, it's kept in in a bag as a "spare". It still has something like 200 shutter count and smell new.

I have many other lenses, including 24-70 f2.8, 200mm f4, 300mm f2.8 and much more but I keep them for specific jobs or studio work.

That's a lot of questions!

That said, regarding the autofocus speed of D2X vs D300, I believe the D2X has a stronger focus motor and that probably helps with screwdriver lenses.

Some cameras, some lenses, some computers
