I have no experience with Canon, but I vote for the Sony combo big time!

Here is a photo I took with that combo plus my 1.4 TC about 90 minutes ago. I know, it is not a BIF, but it was way up high in a tree, and handheld, and...

Please blame my lack of skills for any weaknesses in the photo. Maybe a tad soft if you pixel peep.

Great Horned Owl.

Nice photo, and thx for your reply.. I have decided to stay Sony.. Even if the Canon R5 and RF 100-500 is a fantastic combo I think I will be better of with the Sony A1..

When you fit the 1.4xtc to the Canon rf 100-500 it only works from 300, something to do with the rear element, in effect it becomes a 400-700 f8-f10. I thought that highly undesirable, along with the f7.1 at 500 too. If you hold on Sigma is also releasing the 150-600!

This Sigma wasn't something I thought would be so interesting but, the 150 start is better than 200, apparently it focuses very close and its probably a touch lighter than the 200-600, always welcome.

In all honesty I'm fidning it difficult to hand-hold the 200-600 and the zoom ring is very loose and therefore easily moved. Probably needs a bit of practice to get used to but its a big lens to carry around too

Unfortunately my Sony 100-400 was a bit soft wide open at 400 so I decided to swap to the 200-600 but it's not ideal imo as a substitute, the Canon 100-500 is more comparable to the 100-400 in reality!

A1 is superiror to R5 imo and overall native ens options far greater.
