Nothing wrong with having fun with a great camera. I had the FZ1000 and I'm a retired pro. It's a powerful camera. Panasonic did a great job with the iA (Intelligent Auto) programming.

There's a lot of variables to manage to capture a good image. Don't be afraid to explore that iA option. The old "real photogrpahers only use manual settings" really needs to be jettisoned. Real photographers get the image.

Beach shots are a challenge because they are so very bright and the dynamic range can be off the charts. There's also a lot of haze. The sky alone can throw the exposure off. Add the reflectance off of the sand. I usually shoot normal and +1 (or let the camera do the bracketing). The iDynamic setting can be useful for these types of scenes.

But, I'll circle around back to iA, which does most of that automatically.
