My typical setup is usually the 40-150mm F2.8 +1.4x TC mounted plus the 300mm.

That gives me 56-210mm F4 or 112-420mm equiv then the 300mm F4/600mm equiv.

With the 300mm, if I need more FL, I usually go straight to the 2x, for 1200mm if there is enough light. It is barely hand holdable in good light, but you need to use E shutter.

I dodged spending this much $ on tele lenses for quite a while, but now I wish I would have bought them years ago. I consider these sorts of lenses lifetime purchases.
