"why" is not relevant to eBay or the buyer.  The only thing that matters is that they did not disclose.

. Sending the lens back could get costly since you're probably responsible for shipping charges.

The key word is "probably", which in this case is incorrect. eBay's policy is that the seller pays for return shipping if the "...item was damaged, faulty, or doesn’t match the listing description."  Which was mentioned in the third reply two weeks ago.
