Did you get a lemon camera or general consesus, all TG-6 has this issue?
No lemon, as far as I can tell, just dealing with a choice by Olympus to produce overexposed pictures -- above water. Likely underwater that choice may be a bonus, can't say as I don't dive any more.
In any event, there is nothing that can't be fixed with EV, and I am pleased to say that I am getting better pictures out of this camera now than at the beginning.
I did not read any mention of it in the reviews and in general it has pretty positive reviews so just curious.
The AUTO mode in my opinion can safely be ignored, that's over the top and one can't tweak a thing in camera with that anyway. The dpreview review agrees. Aperture mode also isn#t really aperture mode, as has been explained elsewhere in this thread. So I am de facto now only using P and the macro mode at all times.
What point and shoot did you replace it with?
I am keeping the TG-6. The original poster got a different type of camera, a Panasonic ZS200.
The macro/microscope/focus stack was the main attraction for me.
Ditto. That's the reason I got it.
Focus stacking is of course possible, yes, but without a viewfinder I find myself shooting blind most of the time, plus in my wobbly hands chances of me getting a series of decent enough shots to stack are limited. With a viewfinder it'd be easier to keep that little camera steady, resting it against the eye providing an extra point of stabilization. But there's always the bursts. Just get a card with a fast writing speed. I am using the same type in the TG-6 that I use in the G9.
