Halo/Bleed on digitised slide images

I've noticed this effect on a few of my digitised images - where there is a hard boundary between light and dark areas there is a visible 'halo' of the light into the dark.

I'd liken it most to the effect of a fogged lens but I get the same effect from different lenses. Both lenses look clean to me - the EF pancake usually has a filter almost permanently fitted so it should be clean. The filter was removed for the slide capture.

I can't completely rule out the possibility that it's a fault with the original slide but I've looked under magnification and also compared some of my old OpticFilm scans and I can't see the same effect.

A couple of samples below. I see a halo either side of the white diagonal timbers where they are in front of the darker shadows.
