The short tele range compared to her previous camera (Nikon AW130), killed any possibility..

This I'm confused about. I'm quite familiar with the zoom of the Nikon series and the Olympus Toughs.

The Nikon W130 had a focal range eq of 24-120mm. The TG-6 had a range of 25-100. That isn't much difference (in essence 4X vs 5X). Plus the optics of the Tough series are better quality resulting in sharper images thus nullifying somewhat the slight advantage the NIkon has in zoom range. Part of the problem is that NIkon uses lens stabilization which does sacrifice some optic quality (Olympus uses a limited sensor stabilization instead).

I wrote a detailed post with examples comparing the W300 (the successor of the W130) compared to the TG-6:

And for kicks, the following is a comparison between the TG-4 (16 MP) and TG-5 (12 MP).

Olympus intentionally reduced their MP count to improve picture quality and IMO it was the right decision.
