Compare the mainboard bottom view, they're very similar but there's clearly more components on one version.

That surprised me because I'd always assumed the hardware was identical and it was just firmware separating the two, maybe the differences are minor and it all just amounts to a different revision of the design.

Well spotted!

The large white object which is missing from the Bron version is the socket that the AF illuminator fits into. The bron trigger doesn't have one.

You might be interested in the Bowens version of the X1T here. It seems to be basically the same circuitry but rerouted to fit the different form factor and the on/off and focus assist switches replaced by push buttons (good move IMO).
