CPS is a service / support function. Sales guys probably want to sell instead. They probably want the optics of having all the optics in RF mount as long as it is same or better than EF. Only Canon can tell why they made that decision

Yes but if we put it all to rest then the fun of blabbing about it is over. So in that spirit, from the interview the Canon exec said

“So based on this feedback, we began work on developing super-telephoto single-focal-length RF lenses based on their EF counterparts.”

So that definitely leaves the door open for the possibility that there were changes made beyond merely changing the mount and length of the lens.
