I can appreciate the question of “why it remains on” when one first receives the camera(s) and has not yet read the manual.

But I cannot understand the ongoing angst of feeling like we need to turn it off. The camera was designed this way. It’s “supposed to do that.” Even if you don’t like it (which I also cannot understand). I’ve been using my GFX 100 since it was released, and see zero impact on my batteries. I’m sure there “is some” but it is not apparent in use.

Setting it to white and histogram seems like a kluge for no purpose to me, to be honest. A waste of time and energy. And I’ll bet there’s still whatever battery drain there is “as designed” and so one may be just fooling one’s self.

And, as others have said very well, being able to see the camera’s settings and battery condition “at a glance” before turning it on, is a nice plus.

Hear, hear.
