over engineered

Does the word "over engineered" convey some useful information to members here on this forum?    Are there examples of photographic equipment we can call over engineered?

The project I am working on now I am wondering if I should call over engineered to communicate to our management team. But I want to be careful applying labels if the perceived meaning might spiral off in unexpected directions.  So any experience you might have with this word I would find useful.  If I were to use the word, could I point to some examples of things "over engineered"
