A simple check of the online manuals shows the M2 was the last model with a drop sensor menu option. Sony must have had a good reason to eliminate that feature.

I think it was useful in some way to avoid lens damages: when i simulate a camera fall holding the wrist strap it starts to activate in about 30 cm of free acceleration.

it takes about 2 seconds for the lens to retract. Dropped from waist height (1m), the camera will hit the ground in less than 0.5 sec. My friend dropped his M1 from about that height onto a cushion. The lens was still retracting well after it stopped bouncing.

It's a great small camera, but might be considered somewhat fragile.
