Sony A7—but lenses are what really matter
6

The original Sony A7 comes very close to matching the format (135) and physical form factor, size and weight, of my old film SLR.  I also have an A7R II which is slightly less retro styled, but it works the same way and adds some nice features.

MORE important than the camera body are the lenses.  For a true "retro" experience you need to adapt vintage lenses and get used to manual focus and aperture ring.  I can adapt practically any old SLR lenses to the Sony, and I have a nice set of Konica Hexanon ARs, and some good old Takumars as well.

Then I discovered the current production Cosina-Voigtländer manual lenses.  I have the 15mm Heliar and the 40mm Nokton.  I use the C-V 40mm more than any other lens.  To me these lenses are the best of all worlds:  vintage style and build quality, fully manual operation, stellar optics, electronic communication with the camera body.
