Sadly the update app just stays on screen for a few seconds and then crashes, using a m1 MacBook.. I also installed the Sony camera driver, I rebooted a few times, but no luck 🤬🤬🤬

It says quite clearly that Apple Silicon is not supported - strange that you would even try.

It's baffling to me why Sony requires an updater app.

Sony should follow Nikons example, Nikon updates are so easy and simple, download, copy to card, put card in camera, install. Simple. Non of this faffing about downloading loaders, (700Mb of HD space!!!), closing all apps, restarting computer, (Mac!!), connecting cables, etc. It's a joke.

Q is, is it really worth the hassle or do I just stick to the older version ?

Interesting. With Window you download the exe file, right-click it, plug in the camera, have a cup of coffee and its done. Like just about any other firmware update that I do, except many are wireless these days.
