Back it goes, best of luck selecting the next one, keep us informed.

Sadly, many advanced cameras often are not great P&S. Newfound miniaturization, lens/sensor advancements ....... in your and many cases leads to over-exposed shots. It's hard to understand how Sony, Oly, .... couldn't solve it.

All my Sony rx100's over-expose outdoors. I (and many rx100 shooters) solve it by under-exposing -.3 or -.7 and lifting shadows in post processing. That works great, but that ain't P&S.

Your under-exposed -1.3ev version (straightened, cropped a bit, that's it).

I simply lifted the shadows a bit

windows photo editor has a one step 'enhance', this is what it did (now we see a fence)

now, back to your -1.3ev, simply crop a lot of the dark surround away, no other change

It doesn't appear so dark when not surrounded by so much dark as the original below
