Re: TG-6 cosistenly overexposus
Strictly guessing, but I think it comes down to balancing cost and performance. Presumably somebody using a TG-6 isn't looking for a superior image, "close enough is good enough". Toss in all manner of options, better lens system, etc. and... [shrug] there you are. Spiffy image, but at what cost?
Personally, I don't mind some button-pushing to get the rare "well, darn, that's close to good" exposure. What my wife counts as "good enough"... let's say it's not my "good enough".
I know I'm sounding somehow elitist, but it comes down to different preferences between Chris and me. My RX-10 IV does much of what I want. Does it deliver razor sharp images of every rivet holding together a jet fighter as it zips by? Not hardly. I've seen samples that do just that. Sure would be nice, but... spendy as heck, and means lugging a bunch of lenses. BTDT in the days of film (Olympus OM2 was the last one). Now, a good bridge camera is, for me, a sweet spot between Alpha1, etc. and a wedding guest cardboard camera.
Point being, for Chris, a TG-6 or similar will do for her, but not for me.
We'll see how a Lumix DC-ZS200 fares out of the box. More expensive, more things to twiddle (key phrase -->) if desired. If it's really capable of point and shoot, yea.
Aside from the over-exposure, have to change EV to get anything, problem, the short zoom, compared to the AW130, was also a disappointment. The DC-ZS200 should fix that problem (see specs)! Of course, it comes a cost, a slow F3,3 lens. Given 99% of shooting is either lit outdoors or flash indoors, it's a tolerable cost. Going to a 1" sensor helps somewhat.
For me, RAW is a deal-breaker. No RAW, no way. It limits the choices for a camera, so it goes. Chris can bang away merrily, send off JPEG's to whoever, and smile. Mama's happy. Sometimes her point&shooting produces some good results. Only thing is, they need a little cropping, a little tweaking in post. I have the RAW version of the same image. Now I'm happy, too. Oh, the bliss of family harmony. LOL
