Exactly. All a crop sensor camera does is extract a portion of the focus plane of the lens.

If anything, since lenses tend to be less sharp at the edges, the overall sharpness of the image would be greater.

Canon did publish a list of lenses that they considered capable of matching the resolving power of the high megapixel 5DsR and 5Ds and the 400mm f/5.6L (and 300mm f/4L) were not on the list. It would be reasonable to extend that conclusion to the 90D crop sensor camera, but that is because of the pixel density, not because it is a crop sensor.
