i was recently out shooting some baseball with my new R5 and EF100-400ii and my pictures were terrible. Bad double images. I was shooting at 1/2000sec with lens IS on and it was killing the shots. Turned it off and got much better images. Not sure at what shutter speed range the lens IS needs to be turned on, bit guessing its when you fall below 1/FL. Mind you, I'm coming from Sony A7iii and I pretty much left it on all time unless I was on a tripod. With the telephoto lenses its nice to have IS on because it stops the jittery EVF image when following runners.

I’ve found the same thing.  The IS will work against you when you are following subjects that require large camera swings, even when at high shutter speeds.  I’ve compared many times (with every IS mode). So for all fast action I now keep IS turned OFF.
