I think that would be a hard question for anyone to answer. I got lucky and snagged a used copy of the lens a few months ago. I had long waited, hoping that an IS version would be introduced, but when the EF lenses started to be discontinued, I realized that would never happen, so I took the leap. My only regret is having waited so long.

To give you an idea, my copy of the lens was manufactured in March, 2014.  I use it with a B&W XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007M filter.

If you are not familiar with it, the Canon Camera Museum is a good place to get information on the date a lens or camera was introduced.
