Shutter speed oddity

I've used the X100 series in the past, so I'm not completely new to them.

However, I recently picked up a second hand X100F, and I noticed something peculiar.

Example. I'm using the optical viewfinder with the "electronic viewfinder" in the corner. I'm in full manual (sniffs, adjusts beret).

I point the camera at the scene, and adjust the shutter speed and/or aperture until it reads dead on. OK, so far, so normal.

Then I push the shutter down halfway, and the shutter speed changes, indicating that I am now underexposed, usually by a third or two thirds. If I then press the shutter all the way, the picture is taken, but it doesn't look particularly underexposed on the screen.

I did a little googling, and it sounds like this might be something to do with the DR mode, but I couldn't be sure.

I can obviously adjust any underexposure later on, but I was wondering what's going on here.
