Although I suspect .5mtr is too close. I would want to get insects without being right up close to them - otherwise they would take off.

I'm still exploring but been seeing amazing images with the Raynox Macro lenses and I'm assuming that people aren't up real close to their subjects. Or do I have that wrong?

I am also interested in Raynox and other lenses, but I don't have any of them yet.

Without any additional lens I take the shots of incects very close, like from 1-5 cm distance, because that way you get best result possible. You can get very close with most incects, but the usual problem comes with blocking the sunlight with camera or your body.

Here's picture that is taken very close (5cm) and cropped a lot.
