I never reformat anymore. I once did with my Canon Powershot G11 and the image counter was reset to zero. How is that with the RX10 series, will the counter also be rest to zero after reformatting?

Every Canon camera I've owned, including the G12, has a continuous file numbering option. I'm fairly sure it's the default. The file numbering sequence continues if you change cards, format the card or create and select a new folder.

Sony also has continuous file numbering. They call it series numbering. It's the default for the RX10 series.
