Since a discussion about the functions of the GNX started in another thread (that's getting pretty long now), and a few of us here are newer owners of this amazing camera, I'm starting a new thread with tips and tricks. I just started using my first GNX a month ago and I'm still figuring out this quirky beast.
Here is something I just discovered. All the other cameras I own can be restarted from sleep mode by half pressing the shutter button. That doesn't work on the GNX, a half press does nothing. So I always had to reach over to the far away power button to restart the camera. Well, I just found out that a full press of the shutter button will start the camera from sleep. You may all know this already but for me this was a new discovery :).
If you find new tricks for your GNX please post them here.
Good tip, thanks!
Also, the adapter for the external mic arrived today and seems to work with my Rode videomicro. Need to test it some more as it's hard to tell which mic is being used through the small speaker. But actually the internal mics of the GNX are decent - the only time I'd need the external mic is when it's windy as can use the wind shield.
Another tip is to set the camera so that connections are only active when the screen is on. This will preserve battery and allow you to leave it on standby for a long time. I also try to turn all notifications off so they don't interrupt during taking pics. There is also a blocking mode to stop them all.
I made a silly mistake yesterday as changed the SIM cards over and tried to insert a new one without the adapter. For a while there was a panic as the nano SIM was stuck in the slot, but eventually I got it out!
