I may be missing something, but I can't see much in the announcements of W11 that is earth-shatteringly novel.

  • Start menu in the middle of the task bar and some changes to the taskbar
  • Changed snapping of windows
  • New Microsoft Store (which I've virtually never used)
  • Slight changes to window shapes
  • It runs Android apps. (I have a phone for that)
  • More widgets
  • More integration of Teams
  • Er, that's it

I'm sure there'll be changes under the hood, but this looks like an annual feature upgrade for W10, not a new OS. Good job they're not charging for it, or no one would upgrade.

On the off chance that Apple stops making Macbooks and I'm forced to buy a PC laptop, I'd likely get the ARM version anyway, so this talk of Intel security features is moot.

Moot as in, ARM-based hardware would have to have even more of this "security against the user" features, and in more restrictive configurations?

If I remember correctly, Windows on ARM required always-enabled Secure Boot from the very beginning, and there currently are no third party bootloaders signed for that platform.
