Don't underexpose your pictures

If you let ISO adjust as the camera sees fit, noise is considerably reduced.  The only time I underexpose a shot is in bright sun, with deep shadows somewhere in the photo.  Usually, indoors, no flash, I let the camera select ISO and I choose shutter and aperture.  This works well, even at high ISO.  Two examples: one in bright sun, ISO 100, with -1 1/3 stops of underexposure, one at ISO 6400, no exposure compensation.
