In the beginning of digital sensors, large sensor was impossible and/or extremely expensive so we all shot crop formats.

And now the market is moving over more and more to "full frame" sensored cameras and even the small medium format sensors in Hasselblad X1D and Fujis GFX systems are becoming more and more popular and with lower prices.

What is next?

Nothing. The shift to FF will continue. The tiny niche market held by 33x44 might grow a little. The even tinier niche for larger-than-33x44 will remain tiny.

I think neither Fuji nor Hasselblad can do anything beyond 33X44. The lenses are limited to that size. Any size larger means a completely a new camera and set of lenses.

How and why did they settle on 33X44 and why not ie. 36X46, 40X50, etc?
