Re: Minolta to EF-M adapter with tripod mount

I have a Fotodiox MD-EOS R and a Fotasy MD-EOS M. I've used the Fotodiox longer, and more often since most of my Minolta mount lenses are of the "traditional" focal lengths for full frame.

Since I haven't used them on the same camera, I can't directly compare them in use, but I have some observations.

The rear bayonet sections are both decent. The Lens flange on the Fotodiox is attached to the barrel with five screws, the Fotasy uses three. The Fotodiox has a flat black coating (not flocked) inside the barrel. The Fotasy is finely ridged anodized black aluminum.

Holding both up to the light, any flare from the Fotodiox would be quite diffuse, and less visible than the Fotasy, which is more specular. In use, I've not seen  any problems, but now, with Summer here, I'm sure I'll be in direct sun a lot more often, so we shall see.

The big test for me was mounting my 7.5mm fisheye, which was my original reason for looking into mirrorless. One of the interesting features of this lens is you cannot focus it, as it has no helicoid, relying instead on its extreme depth of field to ensure focus throughout. It was fine on my X-700.

So, pixel peeping on two different cameras, the Fotasy/M6 ii combo was very very sharp. The Fotodiox/RP combo was razor sharp.

If product qualities are similar across either manufacturer's line, I would recommend the Fotodiox.

On a side note, I found the foot too close to the tripod socket to make much difference in terms of balance, and my only really big lens, my 800mm mirror, has its own foot. I found the adapter's foot just got in the way, and stuck it in the drawer where I keep those sorts of things, in case I need them.
