Is this Lens Faulty?
1

I just bought a second M5 body at a very good price, and I opted to get it bundled with the 18-150mm EF-M lens. I already own a lot of the other native lenses.

I think the results are very poor at the long end. If I switch to manual focus things improve quite a bit, but that isn't how I normally shoot. Here I've compared it to my 55-200mm. I tried to compare like for like, but I ended up shooting with the latter at 162mm and a slightly wider aperture, but this was just a quick test. These represent about 1/6th of the frame. The AF point was the right hand lip of the middle flowerpot (just by the white label). I think the focus point looks awful, but oddly some of the background is sharper, so is this an example of a rear-focussing? I've never paid a great deal of attention to my other lenses; real-world photos with them all look pin sharp to me so I've never considered doing tests.

I was not expecting the 'superzoom' to be quite as good, but this strikes me as unacceptable, or am I being too picky? I'm inclined to send it back. The problem isn't with the new camera body by the way, since these were taken with the older one.
