Canon IBIS patent could be big deal, unlock R3 release
1

Canonwatch and others very recently covered a new Canon patent that essentially uses focus point eye tracking of the R3 to tell the IBIS to stabilize not relative to the stationary ground, but rather the object focused on.

That's pretty cool. Actually, it's really cool, and could be a big deal, but the more I think about it, the more I think this could be the gating factor that prevented the R3 release prior to yesterday, when they filed the patent.

Warning: this is probably borne out of my desperate desire to have the R3 released and for it to contain this technology.
