Precision wrt hyperfocal distance (HFD)
1

Hi,

I've been playing around with hyperfocal distance. I have discovered how to calculate it, but my camera will not set a specific distance, nor will it tell me how far I am from an object; so I'm left with guessing how far the object, I'm using to set the hyperfocal distance, is away from me. So ..... I'm wondering:

1. What sort of leeway do I have wrt to setting the HFD. For example: my camera's HFD is 4.1 feet. Should I be precise to the inch, foot, ???

2. If my estimate of how far I am from the object used to set the HFD is wrong, which it most certainly will be; should I error on the low side or the high side (i.e. <4.1 feet or >4.1 feet)

I realize that this all depends on how fussy one is wrt the image produced; but I'm trying to get a feel for what sort of tolerance is generally OK.

Thanks .... john
