If you are traveling with family and its a 'combo' trip ( family vacation and photo ops ), IMO, less is more. I'd be looking at 24-70 and either a 70-300 AFP or Tamron/Sigma 100-400. You'd be able to cover an awful lot of opportunities with just those 2.  Or maybe even the Tamron 150-600: its less bulky and lighter weight than the Nikon 200-500 ( I have owned both ).

If its a photo centric trip, I'd take more, but not much more. Something wider than 24, and as long as I can afford ( which is 500pf+1.4 TC)
