I forget the exact settings- I was shooting manual and just adjusted the shutter speed until the live-view and histogram looked about right for the bright part. I then shot a burst of images. Repeated that for the dim part (you'll probably need to up the ISO to keep the shutter speed decent).
The reason for shooting bursts is that the atmosphere can be really wobbly and blur the image. Shooting a burst of images means you can then go in and view at 100% to find the sharpest one.
