Tom, what folks have apparently forgotten is that most kids sports - if indoor, and sometimes outdoor - traditionally have crap light while you're trying to freeze action. So you're down two stops due to poor light, and then you're down another two or three stops because you need to freeze the action. Pile a crop disadvantage of another stop, and it often will put the image quality over the cliff because you need to push the ISO too high.

I loved my 7D II to death, but in a low light situation, the 1DX beat the pants off it.

Your lenses aren't fast lenses. A full frame upgrade would help, as they're not overly limited in reach, so this might be the best compromise.

The 1DX prices make it a much better deal than a 7D II (go for a high shutter count one for ~$800).
