Tripods - best used for what?
5

Since adopting the M43 system I rarely ever need the use of a tripod, as generally this lightweight and terrifically stabilised system does no longer necessitate one.

So inspired by not bothering to watch DPRevie's video roundup of largely irrelevant kit, I thought I would post my own list.

When is tripod useful for m43?

* Astro photography or exposures longer than a couple of seconds.

* Slowing you down.

* Defending yourself against would be assailants.

* Trying to look professional.

* Weight training, carrying one can save a lot on expensive gym membership fees.

Can't think of anything else off hand. In fact I don't even use one for gigapixel panoramas anymore, as the stitching programs have become so good.

For shooting nature at 800mm effective focal length I occasionally use a monopod with a dirt cheap ball head, total cost under £30 (it may have actually been a lot less)

PS. A downside of using a tripod. Last week on a photographic holiday, friends with tripods kept getting interrupted by interested folks. While I was left alone to get on with photography
