Focus Peaking (on M5, but also generally) - Useful??
1

I've never used Focus Peaking before, but I've recently bought a second M5 body, so I am going through all the menus and setting it up how I like it. I'm noticing menu options I ignored before and have never used, so I just gave FP a try. I can see what it's supposed to do (edges in focus show red) but, given that my eyesight with glasses is good, is it any better than using the magnify option and just focussing by sight? After all, this method has served me well over decades with binoculars, telescopes, microscopes etc which obviously don't have these digital features.

Also, when I use the magnify option, the 'sweet spot' where things show as being in focus is very shallow (focus ring needs to be tuned very finely). When I am not using magnification, edges show up in red over a much broader range of rotation of the focus ring. This suggests that Focus Peaking without also using magnification is imprecise, though I will have to take some test shots to check this.

I'd be interested in thoughts, thanks.
