Canon AV-1 aperture/lightmeter issue

Hi!

I got a new Canon AV-1. Everything seems to work properly except the shutter speed metering. Using my other light meter I can tell everything is severly overexposed in releation to the aperture I have chosen.  For example in one scenario with f1.4 the shutter speed should be about 600 (says my other light meter) but the camera chooses something around 20. It seems to be that at the moment I take the actual picture the aperture changes accordingly. But when metering it seems to always use an aperture of something like f8.

When I enter bulb mode and turn aperture ring the aperture also changes accordingly.

I have noticed that if I remove the lens and attach it again, it seems to work as it should for the first photo.
Has anyone had this problem, or knows what could be the issue?
