about ground beetles

Ground beetle larva.

I only fond out what this was this week.

this may not be the same species as the larva that I found in 2017 but it is a ground beetle

My son found this one for me in the garden. One antenna is missing.

Some species of ground beetle have much longer legs. They all run fast and eat other insects. They have powerful mandibles to crush and chew with.

I have read that they do not bite humans.

Keep them in your garden. They are the good guys. I let this one go.

The scientific name is Carabidae
