MTF50 for all GF primes
13

In a post yesterday, I evaluated the on-axis contrast of all the GF primes at the two spatial frequencies that I think represent the important frequencies for microcontrast: 0.25 cycles per pixel, and 0.33 cycles per pixel. I used the focus-bracketing technique that I've described previously on this forum.

In this companion post, I'm going to present the MTF50 values of the same set of primes, in cycles per picture height, using white-balanced raw values (which penalizes lenses with a lot of longitudinal chromatic aberration (LoCA).

The values may differ slightly from earlier MTF50 values that I've been posting; I'm using more sophisticated methods now. The lenses are ordered by focal length.

Same takeaways as before:

  • As usual, stopping down tends to equalize performance.
  • Also as usual, the 110 is the big winner.
  • In spite of its LoCA, the 80 doesn't do badly at all.
