Measuring the microcontrast of the GF primes

Yesterday and today, I decided to take a different look at the sharpness of the GF primes. I evaluated their on-axis contrast at the two spatial frequencies that I think represent the important frequencies for microcontrast: 0.25 cycles per pixel, and 0.33 cycles per pixel. I used the focus-bracketing technique that I've described previously on this forum.

The results, for white-balanced raw values (which penalizes lenses with a lot of longitudinal chromatic aberration (LoCA).

My takeaways:

  • As usual, stopping down tends to equalize performance.
  • Also as usual, the 110 is the big winner.
  • In spite of its LoCA, the 80 doesn't do badly at all.

If you have a spatial frequency that floats your microcontrast boat, let me know what it is and I'll run a plot for you.
