The book which had the greatest impact on my photography when I was starting out was Bryan Peterson's Learning to See Creatively. I still refer back to it even after close to 20 years.

Another excellent book which is really a complete photography training course is Picture Perfect Practice by Roberto Valenzuela.

More recently Jay Maisel's book Light, Gesture & Color has been big influence on my photography.

I bought Jay Maisel's book recently on Ken Rockwell's recommendation. He said it was easily read at one sitting but there was a great deal to learn. I go back to it regularly and there's always something to take away.
