Is there any way to make it shoot at full speed without simply taping over the 4 extra hotshoe pins?

Nope. It's Canon's "new" flash communication protocol (in their bodies). Even with everything on full manual, the delay is unavoidable (save for "taping") or using triggers that only use the x-sync terminal.

Shooting in manual with manual flash power I can shoot at max framerate until the flash's capacitor is drained (ie 14 fps with the M6ii). This applies to all flashes including Canon and 3rd party.

Thanks, that's what I figured, I just couldn't believe how dumb this is.

Do you know if this is an M only thing, or if newer DSLRs like the 90D work like this too?
