Thank you ever so much. The camera now works with 3rd party lenses. In all probability, the first EOS-M3 that I returned was probably OK, and it was less money. You were a big help.

You are very welcome.  I don't know why Canon, and other manufacturers, chose this as the default behavior, but it is one of the most common questions in these forums.  Another poster just had the same issue 4 days ago with their new M6 II.
