I'm using the eos rp for live streaming and when I plug the hdmi mini cable into the camera the camera lcd goes dark/blank. Same with the viewfinder.

The problem with this is that the cameraman cannot see what he is filming ( kinda important ) .

I hunted around the menus and searched the manual; no luck there. I also searched for "lcd mirroring" and didn't find a solution.

Any ideas on how to prevent the lcd from going blank?

Maybe this will help. Go to p.290 of THE ONLINE ADVANCED MANUAL. You can download from most any Canon Co site. I believe the menu item referenced on that page requires you to have the mode dial on Movie.

Thanks for the tip... I've got the dial set to the "video camera" icon and that doesn't change anything. I also tried the other dial modes to no avail.

My current workaround is to use the canon "Camera Connect" app on my android to preview the image. I mounted my phone in the hotshoe ( using cell phone holder gizmo ) . The image isn't as crisp as when using the lcd and I can't use auto focus because it sends the focus square to the hdmi out.

Canon just emailed me back; they say there is no way to get the lcd working when hdmi is plugged in. :(

Hi, I frequently use the RP as a webcam and have been able to see the LCD with the USB C output plugged in. I've not tried plugging in with the HDMI cable before.

But for livestreaming, you should be able to use a USB C to USB 3.0 to connect to your computer.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'm using an Atem Mini Pro streaming device that allows for multiple cameras to be connected via hdmi. Unfortunately it only offers hdmi inputs.

Hi, you can try to get a cable that has HDMI at one end and USB C at the other end. Plug in the USB C at your EOS RP end and the HDMI at the end of the other device and you should be able to see the LCD on your RP.

According to Page 290 of the user manual, the flip-out screen should still display almost all information with an HDMI cable plugged in while choosing a Clean output option.
