It will often be difficult to get alignment right taking two successive images, and if there are any objects moving in your scene these will look wrong using sequential images. There are probably 3D attachments for phones available for ~$10. I've seen SLR extras for sale at under $30. I suspect using dedicated hardware in this price range to simplify thing considerably.

I have this adapter made by Pentax in the 70ties. No problems to take the photos - however, difficult to view the photos in 3D. There are adapters that were made for slides to see the photos in 3D. But on a monitor or smartphone? There are these 3D devices for smartphones. You would need an app that shows the 3D photos in a way that the 3D view works fine.

Does anybody have experience with something like that?
