Re: A point to ponder and some history

I haven’t been here in a long time.   I go back a few years, used to do a fair amount of photography (my site is still up (josephmoore.com), and I was somewhat active on the forum, but I was more interested in photography than discussions with the pixel peepers. I moved to Texas in 2008 and haven’t  done anything other than occasional photos of my own family.  I have sold a few things, a couple bodies, and lenses like a 300mm 2.8 that I knew someone else would use more than sitting in my closet.  I have a A700, which was my sole camera, but I still have about a dozen lenses and maybe 3 flash units.    But now I have a grandkid on the way, and another kids getting married. I looked to get a new body but of course it appears Sony has made all of my lenses obsolete.   Just received my a6600 today along with 2 prime lenses which should get me through most situations.  I think it was a decision based on features and value but I probably also had an unconscious bias toward Sony.

I loved Minolta film cameras.  I always believed the bodies were made for photographers.  The dials made it simple and quick to make manual adjustments.  My 9 was built like a tank.  It couldn’t do 15 frames a second, but otherwise it was equal or superior to anything in its price range.  Same with the lenses.  I miss working with film, but accept that a lot of people create their images on a computer.  The “slippery slope” question that was discussed endlessly on the forum.
